About The Position

The Director, Benefits Americas is responsible for defining and executing the benefits strategy across the Americas region, ensuring programs support business priorities, employee well-being, and an exceptional employee experience. This role will lead the design, governance, and delivery of health, welfare, retirement, leave, and well-being programs while balancing competitiveness, compliance, and cost effectiveness. This is a highly visible leadership role that partners with senior HR, Finance, Legal, and business leaders to shape the future of Total Rewards during a transformative period for DePuy Synthes. The Director will influence organizational success by driving innovative benefits solutions, strengthening the employee value proposition, and leading a high-performing team focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in Benefits, Total Rewards, Human Resources, or benefits consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex benefits programs across multiple countries and markets within the Americas region.
  • Deep knowledge of employee benefits regulations, governance requirements, and compliance frameworks, including ERISA, ACA, FMLA, and related regulations.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing benefits strategies that drive employee engagement and business outcomes.
  • Experience managing large budgets, vendor relationships, and contract negotiations.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to translate complex data into strategic recommendations.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills with experience advising senior executives.
  • Fluent English required; additional language proficiency supporting the Americas region is preferred.

  • Master’s degree, MBA, or other advanced degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Experience within a multinational healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industry.
  • Experience leading benefits transformations, integrations, separations, or organizational change initiatives.
  • Knowledge of global Total Rewards frameworks and best practices.
  • Experience leveraging digital tools, advanced analytics, and employee insights to improve program effectiveness.
  • Professional certification such as CEBS, CCP, CBP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent.
  • Experience leading managers and geographically dispersed teams in a matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated success driving innovation and continuous improvement within Benefits or Total Rewards functions.
  • CEBS, CCP, CBP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the Americas benefits strategy in alignment with Total Rewards, talent, and business objectives.
  • Lead the design, governance, and administration of health, welfare, retirement, leave of absence, and well-being programs across the Americas region.
  • Direct annual benefits planning, financial forecasting, vendor negotiations, and budget management to ensure sustainable program delivery.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with benefits consultants, brokers, carriers, and service providers to optimize performance and value.
  • Monitor market trends, legislative changes, and competitive practices to provide proactive recommendations and strategic guidance to senior leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements across benefits programs, including governance, audit, and risk management activities.
  • Lead benefits analytics, workforce insights, and reporting to support data-driven decision making and program effectiveness.
  • Drive benefits transformation initiatives, including process improvements, technology enhancements, and employee experience optimization.
  • Collaborate with Global Total Rewards, HR Business Partners, Finance, Legal, and external stakeholders to align regional strategies with enterprise priorities.
  • Build organizational capability through leadership, coaching, talent development, succession planning, and effective team management.
