About The Position

Direct the district’s program for gifted and talented students. Collaborate with district staff and outside personnel to provide educational opportunities for gifted and talented students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with endorsement in gifted and talented education
  • Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide program
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of gifted and talented students
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, teachers, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally walk and stand, talk or hear; travel from one building to another or to other sites.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Light to moderate lifting is required.
  • This position requires meeting deadlines with severe constraints, interacting with the public and staff, and enduring irregular or extended work hours.
  • The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Education Administration
  • Three years experience as a gifted and talented teacher
  • At least three years of administrative experience preferred
  • Certified T-TESS Appraiser

Responsibilities

  • Implement procedures and direct the process to identify gifted and talented students at all grade levels districtwide, including review of student data and testing of students.
  • Develop and revise gifted and talented curriculum.
  • Assist teachers to develop and provide gifted and talented students with alternative course work through curriculum modification, acceleration, etc.
  • Develop and conduct or arrange for staff development sessions, including sessions on delivery of instruction, enriched learning in classroom settings, and methods for identifying gifted and talented students.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the gifted and talented program and implement changes based on the findings.
  • Provide resources and materials to support staff in accomplishing program goals.
  • Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding gifted and talented students.
  • Plan and conduct parent meetings, including parent advisory committee meetings.
  • Administer the gifted and talented budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that gifted and talented funds are managed wisely.
  • Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees, as required.
  • Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor(s).
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.
