About The Position

New Directions for Children, Youth, Adults and Families is a non-profit community-based organization that provides a diverse range of supports to individuals in a variety of settings. The organization’s mission is to provide responsive and individualized services that foster the hopes and dreams of people and their communities. Within New Directions, the Adults Services branch provides strengths-based, person-led services through a range of community-based supports for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities who may experience complex health issues. All services strive to promote a sense of belonging and to provide opportunities for individuals to have meaningful lives, achieved by providing person-led support. Reporting to the Senior Director of Adult Services, this Director position will have a portfolio that includes responsibility for the Winnipeg-based Shift Staffed Homes, along with other service delivery models within Adult Services, such as Day Services Home Share, and Transitional Supports. In addition to specific service area responsibilities, the Director will be a key leader within Adult Services with oversight of strategic growth, project management targets, quality assurance, and change management initiatives. This position directly supervisors a team of Managers and Coordinators, and indirectly oversees front-line teams. The Director must work in collaboration with colleagues and Senior Leadership to ensure proposals and service plans align with the organization’s goals and scope of services that will address gaps and avoid duplication. This position requires a financial acumen to manage and plan for funding agreements, funding proposals and operational budgets in collaboration with New Directions’ financial team, as well as human resources skills to provide leadership and supervision to direct reports and their teams. The ability and resiliency to lead crisis response and act on the Senior Director’s behalf when needed is essential. This Director will also be an active member of New Directions’ Agency Management team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Human Services, Public Health, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience working in a related social service environment, ideally with experience supporting individuals with disabilities and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • 7+ years in progressive leadership positions with responsibility for managing a team, leading strategic change initiatives and quality assurance.
  • A comprehensive understanding of person-led frameworks and a drive to ensure supports are implemented.
  • An extensive knowledge of related operations within the Department of Families.
  • The ability to implement and monitor service evaluation.
  • Experience in all aspects of project management practices and change management principles.
  • A demonstrated commitment to working with cultural communities present at New Directions.
  • A strong understanding of financial/budget management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Dynamics 365.
  • A valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
  • Successful completion of Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks.
  • Supply of a current driver’s abstract.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is considered an asset.

Responsibilities
