About The Position

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Accreditation, the Director, Accreditation is responsible for overseeing and managing the accreditation processes for new and existing colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs). The Director works closely with the COM personnel, site visit evaluators, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) commissioners, and internal staff to ensure accreditation documents are complete and ready for site visits and commissioner review.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five years’ experience working in higher medical education/postsecondary institutions or a healthcare accrediting agency.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Must be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Experience with analyzing and reporting data.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a team player.
  • Willingness to travel outside of Chicago (up to 15% of work time).
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or education field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a professional or institutional accrediting agency is considered a plus.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in COMs accreditation process, including the review of initial and renewal accreditation applications, substantive change applications, midcycle reports, progress reports, and monitoring reports.
  • Provides COM personnel guidance regarding the standards and the accreditation process.
  • Works with commissioners assigned to review reports in preparation for COCA and COCA EC meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director, Accreditation and Director, Policy and Data Analytics to collect and analyze data, documentation, and evidence required for the accreditation process.
  • Serves as a site visit team secretary as assigned, involving the review of self-studies, working with the Program Manager, Site Visit Operations to develop the site visit agendas, managing on-site and post-visit activities, including preparation of the site visit report for COCA review
  • Attends all virtual and in-person COCA, Executive Committee meetings.
  • Create drafts of action letters following all COCA and EC meetings
  • Manages COM-related complaints, as assigned.
  • Serves as staff support to the COCA’s committees and task forces, as assigned
  • Travel to two industry conferences per year; participate in one local and one virtual industry conference per year
