About The Position

The Director, FP&A and M&A is a senior finance leader responsible for driving financial planning, analytical rigor, and acquisition strategy across a dynamic $200M field services business. Operating within a complex, multi-branch environment with disparate systems, this role serves as a trusted advisor to the CFO and executive team, translating operational data into strategic insights and supporting the full M&A lifecycle—from target identification through integration. This position can be based in either Oakville, ON or Lachine, QC. This is a high-impact, highly visible role, requiring someone equally comfortable in the boardroom and in the field—capable of building credibility with branch managers, improving data integrity at the source, and delivering board-ready financial analysis.

Requirements

  • 8–12+ years of progressive finance experience
  • 3–5 years in FP&A leadership roles
  • Demonstrated M&A transaction experience
  • CPA and/or CFA designation
  • Experience in field services, infrastructure, logistics, or multi-site operations
  • Strong experience working with multiple or legacy financial systems
  • Advanced financial modeling skills (Excel required; Power BI/Tableau preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders

  • Experience in private equity-backed or acquisition-driven environments
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and field service platforms (e.g., ServiceMax, FieldEdge, Salesforce FSL)
  • Experience with lender reporting, debt structures, or covenant compliance

Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and multi-year forecasting across all business units and branches
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve financial models that reflect field operations (labour productivity, fleet utilization, route economics, contract margins)
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including variance analysis, KPI dashboards, and actionable insights
  • Drive performance reviews with branch managers and regional leaders, challenging assumptions and ensuring accountability
  • Partner closely with operations to translate field-level metrics into financial performance
  • Lead scenario planning and sensitivity analysis to support pricing, expansion, capacity, and capital allocation decisions
  • Standardize reporting tools and processes across a decentralized, multi-system environment
  • Act as a key stakeholder in data governance, ensuring accuracy and consistency of financial data
  • Identify gaps and inconsistencies across systems and implement both short-term fixes and long-term improvements
  • Promote strong data hygiene and reporting standards across the organization
  • Support ERP consolidation and/or BI tool implementation initiatives
  • Lead financial due diligence (quality of earnings, normalized EBITDA, working capital, risk assessment)
  • Build and maintain advanced financial models (LBO, IRR, accretion/dilution, synergies)
  • Prepare investment memos, executive summaries, and board presentations
  • Coordinate with legal, HR, operations, and external advisors throughout transactions
  • Support post-acquisition integration (Day 1 readiness, reporting alignment, synergy tracking)
  • Maintain an active pipeline of acquisition targets and conduct preliminary financial analysis
  • Act as a strategic finance partner to the CFO
  • Build strong relationships with branch and operational leaders
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of FP&A analysts
  • Liaise with external accounting and legal partners
  • Support the CFO on ad hoc strategic initiatives (capital structure, financing, special projects)
