About The Position

GT Independence is seeking compassionate and reliable Direct Support Workers/Caregivers to support individuals who self-direct their services. The role provides one-on-one assistance in the individual’s home and community, helping them live as independently as possible while respecting their choices, preferences, and goals. The individual receiving services directs their own care, and the schedule and tasks are often tailored to that individual rather than to a facility or agency.

The position includes assistance with personal care, mobility, meals, household routines, community participation, and health-related needs as directed and authorized. Workers follow the individual’s service plan and approved tasks, document services accurately and promptly, complete required training, and follow program guidelines. The role offers flexible scheduling based on availability, meaningful one-on-one work, and ongoing training opportunities.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
• Reliable, patient, and respectful of others.
• Ability to follow direction and care plans.
• Pass a background check.
• Complete required training.
• Follow all state and program guidelines.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in caregiving, home health, or direct support.
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance if providing transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with personal care needs such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
• Support mobility, transfers, and safe movement.
• Help with meals, eating, and maintaining safety.
• Assist with light housekeeping and maintaining a safe home environment.
• Support daily routines and independent living skills.
• Help individuals access and participate in their community.
• Support social, recreational, and personal activities.
• Follow the individual’s service plan and approved tasks.
• Assist with health-related needs as directed and authorized.
• Respect and support each individual’s choices and independence.
• Work under the direction of the individual receiving services.
• Record services provided accurately and in a timely manner.
• Complete required trainings and follow program guidelines.
