About The Position
Helen Keller Services (HKS) is seeking a part-time Direct Support Professional for its Residential program at the Wantagh location. HKS has been dedicated to improving the lives of individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or have combined hearing and vision loss since 1893. This role focuses on empowering and directing individuals in the Residence program, assisting with record-keeping, and ensuring the overall care and well-being of the individuals served.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience working with the developmentally disabled
- Valid NYS Driver's License

Responsibilities
- Supervise and positively interact with individuals following all habilitation plans.
- Work with individuals on their daily living skills.
- Provide individuals with community integration opportunities.
- Direct individuals in their personal routine and provide positive reinforcement.
- Maintain complete and accurate daily records and communication logs.
- Maintain the order, safety, and cleanliness of the classroom and outdoor areas.
- Attend required staff meetings and/or trainings.
- Provide medical oversight, including medication administration under the supervision of nursing staff.
- Transport individuals to and from day programs.
- Interact with parents and professionals from outside agencies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
