About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides compassionate, person-centered support to individuals with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral health needs. This role is responsible for assisting individuals in achieving greater independence, enhancing daily living skills, maintaining health and safety, and participating actively in their communities. Working as part of a collaborative team, the DSP supports individualized service plans, assists with activities of daily living, administers medications, provides transportation, and promotes a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where individuals can thrive.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to complete all required training and certification requirements.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Patience, professionalism, sound judgment, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Lift, transfer, and assist with up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or a related field.
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual, developmental, behavioral health, or other special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with personal care and activities of daily living, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, meal preparation, housekeeping, and community participation.
  • Support individuals in achieving personal goals and maximizing independence.
  • Teach and reinforce daily living, social, communication, and adaptive skills.
  • Promote dignity, privacy, respect, and self-determination in all interactions.
  • Implement Individual Habilitation Plans (IHPs), service plans, and behavioral support plans.
  • Provide supports and interventions consistent with individual goals and objectives.
  • Track progress and assist individuals in achieving desired outcomes.
  • Utilize positive behavioral support strategies and individualized programming.
  • Administer medications and implement prescribed healthcare programs in accordance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and report changes in health, behavior, or overall well-being.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established safety protocols.
  • Safely transport and accompany individuals to medical appointments, recreational activities, educational programs, employment sites, and community events.
  • Operate agency or personal vehicles in compliance with applicable laws and organizational policies.
  • Encourage and support meaningful community involvement and social engagement.
  • Complete all required pre-service, in-service, and ongoing training programs.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of services provided, incidents, and individual progress.
  • Comply with agency policies, procedures, licensing standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with supervisors, coworkers, families, and other service providers.
