About The Position
People Creating Success is hiring a part-time Direct Support Professional in Santa Maria to support adults with developmental disabilities through its supported living and independent living service programs. The role focuses on building genuine relationships, empowering participants, supporting independence, and helping them pursue daily living, social, and community goals. The position involves assisting with daily living skills, personal care, community participation, and person-centered care planning. It also requires supporting individuals during heightened emotional responses, complex behaviors, and sensory overload, and maintaining accurate shift logs and progress notes. The schedule includes Tuesdays, Fridays, and weekends, with flexibility.
Requirements
- Compassionate, person-centered mindset.
- Ability to communicate with dignity and respect, especially during challenging moments.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Responsible and able to assist with tracking progress toward goals.
Nice To Haves
- Weekend availability is a plus but is not required.
- CPR and First Aid certification; training will be provided if not certified or recertification is needed.
Responsibilities
- Support participants with daily living skills such as cleaning, cooking, and budgeting.
- Encourage and model independence, hobbies, and social activities.
- Assist participants in accessing and participating in community activities.
- Assist with personal care, including medication support, hygiene, and bathing; lifting or transferring may be required.
- Collaborate with participants on person-centered care planning.
- Record progress on care plans.
- Support individuals through heightened emotional responses, complex behaviors, and sensory overload using proactive redirection and calming techniques.
- Recognize early signs of stress or escalation and guide individuals through personalized self-regulation strategies.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed shift logs and progress notes.
