Weekend DSP for 22yr old woman (1H0239G)
About The Position
Family Relief Resources (FRR) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support a vibrant 22-year-old woman with special needs who uses a wheelchair. This role involves a mix of personal care, companionship, and community engagement. The position is 100% community or client's home based. The role involves caring for a client on an individual basis in their home environment as well as taking them out into the community to learn skills and socialize. This role varies depending on the client but can involve teaching skills of independent living such as self-care, behavior management, budgeting, cooking, shopping and cleaning.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must pass a Criminal History Check
- Must work a minimum of 15 hours per month
- Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certificate (within 3 months of hire)
- Must complete state required online training courses (pre-hire and within 3 months of hire)
- Must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education per year
- Basic knowledge of technology, including the ability to use a smartphone for timekeeping, submitting daily and quarterly shift reports, communication with office and client family, and additional requirements as needed
- Has direct experience working with children and/or adults with varying levels of support needs (Including experience with intellectual and/or behavioral disabilities)
- Understand requirements of maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding individual information
- Be literate and capable of understanding written and oral orders
- Be able to communicate with individuals, health care providers, case managers, and appropriate others
- Must be comfortable with dogs (two in the home)
- Must be LGBTQIA+ affirming and respectful of diverse family dynamics
- Must be reliable, patient, and confident in managing both routine and delegated medical tasks
Nice To Haves
- Experience with mobility support
- Experience with g-tube care
- Experience with delegated nursing tasks
Responsibilities
- Assistance with ADLs/IADLs including bathing and toileting (urethral and abdominal access)
- Companion care and chaperoning for outings (e.g., mall, nail salon, library)
- Medication administration via g-tube
- Meal preparation and support with a home exercise plan prescribed by OT/PT
- RN delegation required for full-day shifts (training provided by LTCCN)
- Caring for a client on an individual basis in their home environment
- Taking clients out into the community to learn skills and socialize
- Teaching skills of independent living such as self-care, behavior management, budgeting, cooking, shopping and cleaning
- Tracking client visits with GPS location verification at clock in/out using a smartphone
- Providing transportation for clients if needed
- Creating and entering specific progress notes after each shift
- Submitting a progress report once per quarter
- Maintaining a set schedule with clients
- Working independently, showing up for shifts, and being an excellent communicator with client's families and the agency
- Responding to emergency situations when services are being delivered
