About The Position
A 34-year-old male in the Syracuse, New York area is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist him with various daily activities. This role involves supporting personal hygiene, dressing for community outings, providing verbal reminders, and assisting with participation in activities and socialization. The individual enjoys playing basketball, working out, walking, reading, and playing video games. The ideal candidate will be patient, communicate clearly, and be willing to work with individuals who may exhibit verbal aggression, providing consistent verbal encouragement and personal care when needed. The role requires the candidate to be active and willing to accompany the individual on walks and to the gym, as well as travel to different locations. A willingness to learn about non-verbal communication, such as movements and facial expressions, is also important. This is a part-time position with the potential for additional hours with other clients at the agency.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to work independently in the person’s home and/or community.
- Reliable with effective communication and organizational skills.
- New York State Driver's license.
- Reliable transportation.
- Proof of auto insurance.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Flexibility with assignments and schedule required.
- Reliable transportation to arrive to job site at scheduled time.
- Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community and abide by Indera's technology policy.

- Experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
- Experience working with people with Developmental Disabilities preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist with dressing appropriately for community outings.
- Provide verbal reminders for personal hygiene in the restroom.
- Support overall personal hygiene.
- Assist with participation in activities.
- Support interaction with peers and socialization.
- Accompany the individual on walks and to the gym.
- Travel to different locations.
- Provide personal care when needed.
- Work with verbally aggressive individuals and provide verbal encouragement.
