About The Position

PathPoint is seeking part-time Direct Support Professionals to join their Independent Living Services team in San Luis Obispo, CA. This role involves teaching independent living skills to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their homes. Skills taught can include cooking, grocery shopping, healthy living, exercise, budgeting, money management, scheduling medical appointments, and coordinating benefits, tailored to individual goals. The position is full-time, requiring 20-25 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that the employee can set. PathPoint is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people flourish by fostering hope, building life skills, accessing support systems, and forming meaningful relationships in communities across Kern, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, 5 years of driving experience, and be eligible for coverage on PathPoint's auto insurance policy.
  • Culturally aware, acknowledges diverse employee backgrounds, possesses skills to collaborate across cultures, and avoids biased assumptions based on cultural differences.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with people with disabilities, either professionally or personally, is preferred but not required.
  • Customer service experience is a plus!
  • Positivity and patience.
  • Extra pay for bilingual staff (Spanish or ASL if the skill is needed)

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of household skills, including cooking, laundry, paying bills, budgeting, emergency preparedness, shopping, and hygiene.
  • Assist individuals with their benefits and healthcare, including applying for new benefits or services.
  • Serve as liaison between individuals and Social Security, Housing Authority, rental agencies, utility companies, etc.
  • Assist individuals in scheduling medical appointments and escort to appointments as needed.
  • Prepare meals and snacks with individuals.
  • Actively participate in meetings and discussions regarding individual's progress.
  • Maintain daily logs and data reports.
