Direct Support Professional / DSP / Caregiver
About The Position
Provides care and support in a residential setting to the people we serve by assisting in the development and implementation of individual Support Plans, including spiritual life supports, assisting people in achieving their personal goals and desires, providing interaction and choices for activities that support a meaningful day, and supporting people to be independent in activities of daily living and personal care as needed. This role involves 85% direct care and support, and 15% other program support. The position requires maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and attending staff meetings and continuing education. The role is guided by Christian Love, emphasizing empathy, grace, dignity, and patience, and operates under the values of Mission First and One AbleLight, promoting teamwork, accountability, transparency, and courage.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- 1+ Years of experience
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Excellent Teamwork and Communication Skills

Responsibilities
- Provides daily support, care, and companionship aligned with the individual Support Plan (ISP) with dignity and respect.
- Provides personal care such as bathing, dressing, bathroom assistance, or housekeeping.
- Prepares and serves meals in accordance with individual diet plans.
- Administers medication and prescriptions as documented under the direction (supervision) of a nurse.
- Schedules and accompanies individuals to medical appointments, outings, or errands.
- Supports engaging activities to maximize and enhance the quality of daily living and support individuals’ personal goals and quality of life.
- Ensures general event reporting (GER) and record keeping are maintained in alignment with medical orders, state compliance requirements, abuse reporting, court orders, and AbleLight quality and internal procedures and guidelines.
- Participates by providing insight into daily activities and interests of an individual in the development and updating of individual support plans.
- Purchases food and supplies when instructed.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and healthy environment always in the residence.
- Ensures care and residence is fully compliant with safety protocols.
- Attends staff meetings and participates in continuing education.
