This role is responsible for assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, and providing emotional support. The Direct Support Professional engages in respectful communication, encourages socialization, and facilitates community connections. Key responsibilities include the overall supervision, protection, and care of individuals, ensuring adherence to program guidelines, and facilitating learning in fire safety. The role also involves ensuring health, wellness, and safety by managing crisis situations and adhering to policies. Support is provided in various settings according to individualized service and behavior support plans, utilizing core competencies. The position requires ensuring the implementation of person-centered plans, including protective oversight, Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), and Staff Action/Life Plans. Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized therapeutic environment, utilizing safe handling procedures, and implementing infection control protocols are also essential. Specific tasks include assisting with personal care, ADLs, laundry, housekeeping, medication administration, teaching skills, supporting advocacy, communication, and dispute resolution. Meal preparation according to dietary needs, transporting individuals, and assisting with purchases and fund safeguarding are also part of the role. The position requires developing an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge for specific needs, implementing Behavior Support Plans, and collecting/summarizing data on behavior. It involves serving as a team member, completing necessary trainings and certifications, and maintaining documentation using electronic health records. Foundational teaching skills and person-centered thinking are utilized to support positive interactions. Compliance with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, is mandatory. Reporting maintenance and safety concerns, consulting with leadership and clinical staff, and utilizing approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques for challenging behaviors are also key functions. The role may involve coverage for other staff, participation in treatment plan development, and operating a YAI vehicle for transportation. All other assigned duties are also part of the responsibilities.
