About The Position

Island Home Care is a family-run, locally operated home care business. Direct Service Workers provide in-home support to clients who need assistance maintaining their independence. No prior experience is required, and training is provided. Multiple shifts and locations are available so employees can choose work that fits their personal schedule. The role suits people who enjoy working independently in a home environment and who are friendly, compassionate, respectful, patient, and professional.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
• Ability to pass state-required training requirements.
• Ability to climb one flight of stairs and enter homes that may not be handicap accessible.
• Commitment to adhere to health and safety standards.
• Ability to follow a plan of care unique to each client.
• Time-management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong ethics.
• Mobile cellular device.
• Ability to lift 10 pounds; some clients require physical mobility assistance up to 50 pounds.
• Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with meal preparation and/or eating.
• Help clients with grooming, bathing, dressing, and hygiene.
• Assist with mobility and provide physical mobility assistance when needed.
• Perform light housekeeping.
• Provide medication reminders.
• Offer companionship and conversation.
• Assist clients with appointments and errands.
• Follow each client's individual plan of care and health and safety standards.
