About The Position

Island Home Care is a family-run, locally operated home care business. Direct Service Workers provide care in clients’ homes, helping them maintain independence through assistance tailored to each client’s plan of care. No prior experience is required; training is provided. Employees can choose from different shifts and locations to fit their schedules. The role involves working independently in a home environment and following health and safety standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
• Ability to pass state-required training requirements.
• Ability to climb one flight of stairs and enter homes that may not be handicap accessible.
• Commitment to health and safety standards.
• Ability to follow a plan of care unique to each client.
• Time-management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong ethics.
• Mobile cellular device.
• Ability to lift 10 pounds; some clients may require physical mobility assistance up to 50 pounds.
• Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with meal preparation and/or eating.
• Help clients with grooming, bathing, dressing, and hygiene.
• Assist with mobility and, for some clients, physical mobility needs.
• Perform light housekeeping.
• Provide medication reminders.
• Offer companionship and conversation.
• Assist clients with appointments and errands.
• Follow each client’s individual plan of care and adhere to health and safety standards.
