The Direct Care Staff is responsible for the daily care and supervision of children in the emergency shelter; ensuring their health, safety and well-being are protected. The position requires the ability to sense a potential or occurring crisis or volatile situation and engage in a manner that reduces the intensity or conflict. It also requires the ability to demonstrate emotional intelligence in various settings and with a diverse population, identify various challenges, think outside the box, be innovative, and formulate possible solutions. Critical thinking skills are essential, as is the ability to actively and skillfully process and generate information and belief using a set of core skills – analysis, evaluation, inference, deductive reasoning, and inductive reasoning. Teamwork is also crucial, with the ability to listen and respond constructively with others fostering collaboration and team success. The role requires sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics. Adherence to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others is mandatory. Protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization is also required. Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral is mandatory. Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization. Attendance and successful completion of a 10-day New Employee Orientation is mandated for the position. The inability to meet this requirement will conclude employment with the Agency.
