About The Position

The Dining Host assists patients with selecting food items from daily and alternate menus that meet their diet orders and preferences. The role reviews menus for accuracy, delivers meals and snacks, collects trays, records food and fluid intake, and provides snacks and floor stock to unit pantries. It also supports menu and food-preparation documentation and maintains clean, safe, and organized unit kitchens and refrigerators.

Requirements

Complete ANSI-accredited Food Handler Training within 30 days.

Responsibilities

Manage the patient menu process, meeting departmental accuracy and submission standards and learning patients’ preferences through face-to-face visits with patients and/or families.
Attend food-tech meetings or review meeting minutes, and complete required Carle Health or department education.
Deliver patient food trays to bedside according to the delivery schedule and deliver nourishments or arrange for patients to receive them.
Record patients’ food and fluid intake and document calorie-count intake; research missing calorie-count information and submit it to dietitians daily.
Deliver late trays for special orders, requests, or changes in orders as needed.
Inventory and distribute floor stock daily, rotate stock, and perform light housekeeping in unit refrigerators, counters, drawers, lounges, and pantries.
Record refrigerator temperatures daily and ensure documentation is received for monthly Quality Improvement review.
Maintain a safe, clean, sanitary, and organized food-service environment by following food-safety practices, including appropriate use of gloves, hairnets, cleaning materials, and food temperatures.
Keep manual kardexes current with changes from physician orders, patient requests, and dietitian orders, including floor kardexes and nourishment records.
Tally food-preparation items by established deadlines, including off-menu items, late additions, changes, and discharges.
Follow the daily write-in procedure.
