About The Position

The Dimensional Evaluator SSBO's primary mission is to identify and correct visual and dimensional flaws in castings to ensure the final product meets customer specifications. Depending on business needs, this role may also perform visual/dimensional inspection, straightening, and CMM evaluation/disposition, including associated tasks like hardness testing and UTT. This position recognizes multi-skilled work, where employees are expected to spend approximately 20% of their time performing secondary functions in addition to their primary "core" function to facilitate part flow. For example, if visual dimensional inspection is the primary function, then straightening and/or CMM evaluation must be performed at least 20% of the time, and vice versa.

Requirements

  • Ability to identify and correct visual/dimensional flaws in castings.
  • Proficiency in visual and dimensional inspection techniques.
  • Experience using templates, micrometers, fixtures, gauges, calipers, ultrasound, and boroscopes.
  • Experience with hardness testing instruments (Brinell, Rockwell).
  • Ability to mark castings to identify rework areas and mill rates.
  • Skill in adjusting fixtures, gauges, and precision measuring tools.
  • Experience in straightening castings to meet dimensional tolerances.
  • Ability to set up castings on surface plates or fixtures.
  • Proficiency in evaluating part conditions and determining straightening methods.
  • Ability to establish datums and straighten to rotational tolerances.
  • Experience using presses, straightening fixtures, profile templates, and other straightening tools.
  • Ability to review CMM Reports and evaluate discrepancies.
  • Understanding of Localized Alignment Values (LAV) for targeting.
  • Ability to determine if discrepancies are acceptable per customer specifications.
  • Skill in using standard Visual/Dimensional Inspection techniques for discrepant parts.
  • Ability to complete and maintain records, logs, and reports.
  • Adherence to safety rules and safe operation of equipment.
  • Ability to identify and report safety problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CMM evaluation/disposition.
  • Experience with UTT (Ultrasonic Testing).
  • Experience with targeting.
  • Ability to make recommendations to resolve part non-conformity.
  • Experience in casting repair and analysis.
  • Experience in blending of defect areas.

Responsibilities

  • Visually and dimensionally inspect castings in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Ensure that only necessary rework is performed.
  • Follow Quality Systems and Technique Card requirements.
  • Fixture some parts and leave others freestanding.
  • Visually inspect castings as required.
  • Dimensionally inspect castings for conformance to blueprint and Technique Card specifications using templates, micrometers, fixtures, gauges, calipers, ultrasound, boroscope, and other dimensional measuring devices.
  • Check casting hardness using Brinell, Rockwell, and other instruments.
  • Mark castings to identify areas needing rework, mill rates, etc., to meet dimensional and visual specifications.
  • Adjust fixtures, gauges, and precision measuring tools to calibrated standards.
  • Straighten castings to meet dimensional tolerances and customer specifications.
  • Set up castings on surface plates or fixtures.
  • Evaluate the condition of parts using precision measuring tools to determine the most effective method of straightening.
  • Establish datums to casting surfaces and fixtures on surface plates and straighten to a rotational tolerance.
  • Straighten castings to the required configuration using a variety of tools and devices, including presses, straightening fixtures, profile templates, and power or manual tools.
  • Review CMM Reports for discrepancies.
  • Evaluate CMM BT (Before Target) reports and utilize Localized Alignment Values (LAV) to establish rest point values for targeting.
  • Determine if discrepancies are acceptable to customer specifications and/or applicable part-specific requirements.
  • Evaluate discrepant parts using standard Visual/Dimensional Inspection techniques to determine necessary rework to reprocess parts back to customer specifications.
  • Mark castings to identify areas needing rework to meet specifications.
  • Route discrepant parts to the Rework Analyst for reprocessing.
  • Make recommendations to resolve part non-conformity.
  • Perform other tasks as directed, including blending of defect areas.
  • Make recommendations for part routing as required.
  • Complete and maintain a variety of records, logs, non-conformance reports, and production reports as required.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
