About The Position

The Pattern Finisher is responsible for preparing patterns for assembly and preparing soluble cores for pattern molding. This role involves wax welding multiple components using fixtures to maintain dimensional conformity and repairing wax patterns and soluble cores according to quality standards. The position requires adherence to safety rules and accurate record-keeping, with opportunities to train less skilled personnel.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience to fully perform the duties of a Wax Cleaner or a Wax Assembler "C" (not at TBO) OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning techniques, methods, materials and tools.
  • Ability to use simple to moderately complex measuring devices and fixtures.
  • Ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 35 pounds and use other lifting devices for any objects weighing more than 35 pounds.
  • Ability to work in conditions which may include exposure to noise, fumes, crowding, abrasions, cuts, and chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble pattern components and/or make dimensional alterations to patterns.
  • Read tech cards and engineering instructions.
  • Assemble wax components into visually and dimensionally acceptable patterns, potentially using specialized fixturing.
  • Modify patterns or soluble cores using various hand tools and wax materials.
  • Inspect modifications with special gauges and other measuring devices.
  • Occasionally insert ceramic cores in wax patterns and maintain dimensional integrity (TBO only).
  • Repair broken or damaged patterns and soluble cores and restore them to a dimensionally acceptable condition.
  • Replace broken features by wax welding fragments or using other wax supplies to reconstruct missing areas.
  • Fill voids and reform damaged contours by attaching and shaping stock wax.
  • Clean pattern and soluble core surfaces to meet visual inspection criteria.
  • Remove flash, mismatch, and other surface positives using a variety of hand tools and materials.
  • Fill or patch negatives using paint wax, melted stock wax, hot pencils, and other tools and materials.
  • Complete dimensional integrity restoration and plugging of holes per tech cards.
  • Inspect work for compliance with quality standards.
  • Identify patterns with specified serial pads and numbers.
  • Place sticky wax pads or stamp specified serial numbers directly into patterns, per tech cards.
  • Take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed.
