About The Position

This role is generally responsible for performing field surveys and laser scans, and preparing drawings for the design and construction of industrial facilities, as well as construction staking in an industrial environment. The specialist will facilitate the completion of assigned projects and tasks by providing leadership, direction, training, and mentoring to junior staff. This work will be performed under general supervision, and short-term travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting, Surveying \ Geomatics is required.
  • Professional Land Surveyor registration is required.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in land surveying and computer aided drafting.
  • Firm knowledge of survey standards and codes.
  • Knowledge and application of local and state regulations as they pertain to land surveying.
  • Proficient in the use of field instruments such as robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and laser scanners.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Carlson Software or equivalent.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution and support with general supervision.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and technical & professional competence in land surveying.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree in Surveying \ Geomatics from an accredited university is preferred.
  • Proficient with Cyclone laser scanning software or equivalent a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Completing project safely and within required accuracy and timeframe.
  • Coordinating with survey team and design team to ensure survey scope is clear and deliverable expectations are met.
  • Planning, organizing, and leading daily survey activities of assigned staff to meet client, team, and corporate goals. May function in a lead position with respect to actual accomplishment of tasks and/or may function as a technical consultant to other team members.
  • Coordinating findings with the work of engineering teammates, clients, and others involved in projects.
  • Supervising and assisting Survey Technicians in processing field data, preparing 3-D models, preparing surveys/plats, and making revisions as required.
  • Calculating heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain and industrial facilities.
  • Adhering to existing standards of practice for surveying.
  • Conducting surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles.
  • Establishing construction control points for use in the installation of equipment and materials.
  • Preparing sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys.
  • Recording the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
  • Searching legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.
  • Verifying the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
  • Functioning as a primary contact point for the client concerning the surveying aspects of his/her project.
  • Reviewing and approving the technical approach to project tasks and the intermediate & finished work product to ensure that they meet objectives.
  • Coordinating with applicable government agencies and attending meetings as appropriate to assure that client projects comply with agency regulations.
  • Performing initial QA/QC and final review of the project work if surveyor of record.
  • Participating in the establishment and implementation of staff training & professional development programs, and leading in affecting daily technical and administrative on-the-job skills training of assigned staff.
  • Supervising and leading assigned staff in accomplishing their essential duties related to client and government agency communication.
  • Reacting to change productively and handling other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of survey work. Assisting with project coordination/resource allocation.
