Digital Twin Product Lead

TerraPower LLC.•Bellevue, WA
•$167,019 - $222,692

About The Position

TerraPower is seeking a Digital Twin Product Lead to define and guide its digital twin strategy, with end-to-end ownership of Natrium digital twin initiatives. The role establishes a practical shared definition of a nuclear reactor digital twin and aligns Design, Engineering, Construction, Operations, and Enterprise AI & IT around common terminology, maturity, and principles. It connects that strategy to TerraPower’s broader Digital Product and Enterprise AI goals. The lead guides technical and investment decisions across modeling and simulation, 3D/CAD and BIM environments, engineering data and configuration management, sensor and operational data, and AI/ML. The role distinguishes products, platforms, and architecture; assesses technical and resource trade-offs; keeps work focused on defined use cases and value; and partners with architecture, data management, and information security teams to address data, security, export-control, and regulatory requirements. The position also manages relationships with internal stakeholders and external technology and services partners, identifies existing models, data, tools, and efforts to avoid duplication, and ensures engagements deliver value. The lead maintains a prioritized roadmap and portfolio aligned with Digital Product goals and program milestones, defines success measures, reports progress and risks to leadership, and makes timely decisions to advance, escalate, or stop work. TerraPower is a nuclear technology company based in Bellevue, Washington, focused on advanced nuclear technologies and medical isotopes. The role may involve travel of 0–10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in technical product management, digital engineering, systems engineering, or technical program leadership, including at least 3 years leading digital twin, modeling and simulation, or comparable digital engineering initiatives.
  • Familiarity with analysis codes that a digital twin may need to wrap or validate against, including internally developed tools; DOE/INL’s MOOSE framework and NEAMS tools; GOTHIC; RELAP5-3D or TRACE; MELCOR; and MCNP or Serpent.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the differences among products, platforms, and architecture, and experience applying that distinction to technology strategy and investment decisions.
  • Ability to understand complex design, engineering, and operational processes and workflows and translate them into prioritized use cases and requirements.
  • Track record of delivering technical capabilities through engineering teams and external partners without direct ownership of execution.
  • Ability to evaluate technical, resource, and capability trade-offs and make defensible decisions independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, including setting requirements and expectations for engineers and explaining trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and executives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nuclear, energy, aerospace, defense, or another highly regulated, engineering-intensive industry.
  • Familiarity with full-scope nuclear plant simulators.
  • Familiarity with nuclear design, licensing, and quality frameworks, such as NRC regulations, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, and NQA-1, and their implications for engineering data, digital tools, and verification and validation processes.
  • Experience with nuclear cybersecurity requirements, including 10 CFR 73.54 or NEI 08-09 in the United States.
  • Experience with engineering data management, PLM, configuration management, or systems engineering (MBSE) practices.
  • Understanding of how AI/ML and knowledge graphs can augment digital twins.
  • Experience establishing a new organizational capability or discipline, including defining its vision, operating model, and governance.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate TerraPower’s practical digital twin philosophy, including its scope, forms, relationships, and guiding principles.
  • Build alignment across Design, Engineering, Construction, Operations, and Enterprise AI & IT around shared vocabulary and a maturity model.
  • Serve as the authoritative voice on digital twin strategy and connect it to broader Digital Product and Enterprise AI goals.
  • Develop a working understanding of relevant modeling and simulation, CAD/BIM, engineering data, configuration management, sensor and operational data, and AI/ML technologies.
  • Distinguish products, platforms, and architecture to guide technology investment and design decisions.
  • Evaluate technical, resource, and capability trade-offs proposed by internal and external engineering teams and make or recommend decisions.
  • Keep projects within defined use cases, value, and boundaries, avoiding distraction, gold-plating, and scope creep.
  • Partner with enterprise architecture, data management, and information security to meet data, security, export-control, and regulatory requirements.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships across Design, Engineering, and Operations and manage third-party partner expectations, scope, and success criteria.
  • Identify existing models, data, tools, and efforts before starting new work, and prevent duplication or redundant capabilities.
  • Own Natrium digital twin initiatives from initiation and scoping through prioritization, progress, and completion.
  • Maintain a prioritized digital twin roadmap and portfolio aligned with Digital Product goals and program milestones.
  • Define success measures and report progress, risks, and outcomes to leadership.
  • Make timely decisions, escalate when appropriate, and close out or stop work that is not delivering value.
