About The Position

Southwestern Public Health is seeking a collaborative, innovative, and technically curious student to join the Information Technology team. This role will focus on developing digital tools and automation solutions using the Microsoft platform, including Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and emerging AI capabilities like Copilot and agent-based automation. The successful candidate will explore how AI-driven agents can enhance business processes by integrating with Power Apps, Power Automate, and other Microsoft services to improve efficiency, reduce manual work, and support program delivery. The position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are practical, secure, and aligned with organizational standards and public health requirements. This position is anticipated to extend until August 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary degree or diploma program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field
  • Comfortable using Microsoft 365 tools (e.g., Teams, SharePoint, Outlook)
  • Interest in technology, automation, or software development
  • Basic understanding of how applications or workflows are built (through coursework, labs, or personal projects)
  • Willingness to learn new tools and technologies, particularly within the Microsoft ecosystem
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates professionalism and a willingness to learn

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure (academic or personal) to Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) or similar tools
  • Interest in artificial intelligence, Copilot, or automation technologies
  • Basic familiarity with any programming or scripting language (e.g., JavaScript, Python, etc.)
  • Experience working on school or personal projects involving apps, automation, or data
  • Awareness of privacy, security, or accessibility concepts (no formal experience required)

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the development of internal tools using Microsoft 365 and Power Platform
  • Supporting the creation of simple automation workflows using Power Automate
  • Helping build and test basic AI agent solutions (e.g., Copilot-based tools)
  • Working with IT staff and other teams to understand business needs and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Testing solutions and helping troubleshoot issues as they arise
  • Assisting with documenting tools and processes in a clear and simple way
  • Supporting updates and improvements to existing tools and workflows
  • Learning and exploring new Microsoft technologies, including Copilot and automation tools
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing ideas for improving processes
  • Other IT-related tasks and projects as assigned
