About The Position

WGU is seeking a Digital Services Librarian passionate about building a better future for individuals, communities, and the country. This role is crucial in expanding access to higher education through online, competency-based degree programs and contributing to WGU's mission as a great place to work for a diverse, student-focused workforce. The Digital Services Librarian will manage all aspects of the online library, ensuring it meets contemporary library standards. This includes working with vendors to procure and implement resources and services, providing reference and research support, and creating instructional materials to promote library resources and information literacy. The position is based onsite in Salt Lake City, UT.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited university
  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Knowledge of library platform, content systems, and vendors
  • Ability to work independently, conceptualize projects, and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to engage and manage outside vendors
  • Ability to understand and interpret information accurately
  • Ability to communicate accurately and concisely, including both written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated skill and ability in electronic resource management, library reference and instruction, and online education
  • Demonstrated skill and ability in the effective use of equipment, computers, and other resources for completion of projects

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience with distance education and distance learning students is preferred
  • Preferred 3–5 years of professional experience in college or university libraries, with experience in online education, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience is acceptable

Responsibilities

  • Designs and maintains the online WGU library, including search systems and content, using products and platforms that meet the university’s needs efficiently within the proposed library budget
  • Ensures regional and national accreditation standards are met
  • Creates and implements library collection development policies
  • Works across university departments to determine the information needs of students, faculty, and staff
  • Integrates WGU library resources directly into WGU coursework
  • Supports and trains students, faculty, and staff in the research process
  • Ensures the library meets current standards of library science
  • Creates library-specific instruction for use in WGU courses and on the library site
  • Maintains copyright on library e-reserves and provides copyright assistance to other university departments
  • Maintains reports on the usage of library collections and services
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
