About The Position

This position is for a Principal Engineer that serves in a pivotal leadership role accountable for spearheading complex, critical, and large-scale professional disciplinary areas. This role leads and directs highly skilled engineering teams, requiring a comprehensive understanding of multiple technical domains and their interdependencies to achieve strategic objectives. The Principal Engineer applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions, demonstrating strong commercial awareness. They are generally accountable for the successful delivery of a full range of services, championing an AI-First approach to all solutions and acting as a Design Authority. This role demands excellent communication skills to negotiate internally at a senior level and externally with partners, while exercising control over resources, policy formulation, and strategic planning. They are involved in short- to medium-term planning for their area, with full management responsibility including performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, and budget approval, all while fostering an environment that champions best practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant experience in a leadership role within software engineering, architecture, or product development, with significant exposure to modern web technologies (React with Typescript), microservices (Java Spring Reactive, Python), and distributed systems (Module Federation/MicroFrontEnds).
• Proven experience building complex business and/or transactional models, demonstrating deep understanding of Resiliency, Observability and Scalability principles.
• Has thrived and succeeded in delivering high-quality technology products and services in high-growth, rapidly shifting environments, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to and integrate new paradigms like Rapid AI Enabled Design and Implementation.
• Ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases, coupled with experience in monitoring and optimizing highly observable systems.
• First-class leadership and influencing skills, including extensive experience as a Leader, Mentor, and Design Authority, managing engineering teams and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and talent management skills, including the ability to identify and develop engineering talent, with a focus on cultivating expertise in emerging AI technologies (LLM, RAG, MCP, Agentic AI Patterns).
• Experience in Collaboration with Architecture, Product and Business, and effectively Managing multiple partners from Cyber, Data and Audit teams.
• Bachelor’s/University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

• Lead the Rapid AI Enabled Design and Implementation of successful large-scale, critical, and/or complex software efforts, including both new development and strategic refactoring of existing systems.
• Heavily influence the technical direction and contribute significantly to critical-path code, acting as a Design Authority to ensure architectural integrity and alignment with an AI-First approach.
• Architect and implement solutions with a strong focus on high availability, performance, and future growth, integrating robust monitoring and logging practices.
• Possess detailed knowledge of the work done by the team and proactively work to improve consistency and integration between software components, including those leveraging Module Federation/MicroFrontEnds, and related software owned by other teams.
• Drive technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to team priorities, championing the adoption of modern frameworks like React with Typescript and Java Spring Reactive, and exploring new capabilities with Python.
• Take the lead in identifying and solving ambiguous problems, addressing architectural deficiencies, or resolving areas where the team’s software bottlenecks the innovation of other teams, particularly in leveraging LLM, RAG, and MCP for enhanced functionality.
• Make software simpler, more robust, and highly performant.
• Effectively communicate complex technical ideas to achieve optimal outcomes for the team and customers.
• Harmonize discordant views and lead the resolution of contentious issues by building strong consensus.
• Engage in deep Collaboration with Architecture, Product and Business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into robust technical designs and roadmaps.
• Lead and actively participate in design reviews for the team and related software across the organization, ensuring adherence to best practices, security standards (in collaboration with Cyber), data governance (with Data partners), and audit requirements.
• Demonstrate strong technical influence across 3-4 teams, driving software engineering best practices (e.g., Security, Quality, Operational Excellence) and acting as a Mentor and Leader to elevate collective capability.
• Effectively Managing multiple partners from Cyber, Data and Audit, ensuring all solutions adhere to regulatory and internal standards from an AI-First perspective.
• Set a high example for code quality, development, and implementation decisions.
• Provide insightful code reviews and take full ownership of outcomes, championing best practices and the mantra: "You 'ship it', you own it."
• Work very efficiently and routinely deliver the right things.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding the organization, its clients, and assets.
• This includes driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.
• Effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these high standards.
