Digital Manufacturing Architect, Senior Manager/Associate Director

Accenture•St. Louis, MO
•$112,900 - $271,000

About The Position

Accenture’s Supply Chain & Engineering practice helps manufacturers modernize plant-floor systems, connect operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT), and use operational data to improve manufacturing performance. The Digital Manufacturing Architect is a hands-on technical architect who works with plant operations, engineering, IT, and executive stakeholders to design and deliver production-ready manufacturing architectures. The role assesses existing manufacturing technology landscapes and defines target architectures that bridge IT and OT. It designs platform architectures across ISA 95 levels, from shop-floor connectivity through enterprise systems, incorporating edge, on-premises, and cloud components. It also develops technically feasible digital manufacturing roadmaps that account for production uptime, legacy-system dependencies, and cybersecurity requirements. The architect leads implementation teams through requirements, design, commissioning, and hypercare in live production environments, and serves as the technical authority for vendor selection, platform decisions, and build-versus-buy tradeoffs. Travel may vary up to 75%.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years working in or with manufacturing environments, with direct exposure to plant-floor operations, production systems, and industrial infrastructure.
  • At least 5 years designing or delivering integrated cloud and edge platform architectures for digital manufacturing use cases.
  • Hands-on experience deploying AWS, Azure, or GCP solutions in industrial contexts.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with a minimum of 12 years of work experience; alternatively, an associate degree with a minimum of 6 years of work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with OT cybersecurity principles, including network segmentation, Purdue Model concepts, and IEC 62443 awareness.
  • Experience building business cases and presenting transformation recommendations to senior client leadership.
  • Strong understanding of modern data architecture, including Unified Namespace (UNS), data products, and semantic layers, and how these foundations enable AI-driven manufacturing use cases.
  • Experience commissioning digital manufacturing use cases on plant floors, leading factory acceptance testing, or managing integration across brownfield and greenfield environments.
  • Proven experience with microservices architectures, containerization such as Docker and Kubernetes, or serverless computing patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience deploying or piloting AI/ML solutions in manufacturing contexts.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical architectures clearly to plant engineers, IT leadership, and executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients’ manufacturing technology landscapes, including ERP, LIMS, EAM, MES, SCADA, and historian systems, and define target-state architectures that bridge IT and OT.
  • Design platform architectures across ISA 95 levels, connecting the shop floor to the enterprise through edge, on-premises, and cloud components.
  • Build digital manufacturing roadmaps grounded in technical feasibility and sequence investments around production uptime, legacy-system dependencies, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Translate plant-floor operational needs into solution designs that engineering, IT, and business stakeholders can align on.
  • Lead delivery teams through full-lifecycle implementation, from requirements and design through commissioning and hypercare in live production environments.
  • Serve as the technical authority on engagements, guiding clients through vendor selection, platform decisions, and build-versus-buy tradeoffs.
