About The Position

The Attorney General’s Office is seeking a highly motivated Digital Evidence Analyst I to join the Digital Evidence Laboratory (DEL) within the Criminal Bureau. The DEL is a statewide unit based in Boston, responsible for collecting and analyzing digital evidence from various sources including mobile devices, computers, networks, and third-party providers. DEL personnel also lead cyber initiatives to enhance law enforcement's capabilities in digital evidence collection, analysis, and cybercrime investigations. This role may involve working on sensitive investigations, including child exploitation cases, and requires travel to offsite evidence scenes and on-call availability during non-traditional hours. Ongoing training in digital forensics is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in digital forensics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems, networks, mobile devices, and the digital forensic process.
  • Proficiency with software applications used in the acquisition and analysis of digital evidence.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making.
  • A valid driver’s license as travel is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Academic programs that include significant hands-on digital forensic experience, technical experience, and report writing experience may be considered towards the experience requirement.
  • Knowledge, training, and experience in the area of criminal investigations is desired.
  • Current certifications in the field of digital forensics are desired.
  • Familiarity with Forensic Explorer, Cellebrite applications, and Magnet Axiom.
  • Experience examining mobile devices, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and collect digital evidence in the field.
  • Preserve electronic data from computer systems, mobile devices, computer media, and servers in accordance with industry best practices.
  • Examine digital evidence in support of criminal investigations.
  • Testify in court as a witness.
  • Satisfy initial competency and annual proficiency reviews.
  • Comply with DEL policies and industry best practices for forensic examinations of digital evidence.
