About The Position

The Digital Engagement and Outreach Manager is responsible for developing and enacting NARF’s digital communication strategy, in collaboration with the broader Communications team. This position will plan and create innovative digital content to ensure that the organization’s mission, priorities, and advocacy efforts are effectively communicated across digital platforms, including social media, video, email, digital advertising, Native American Rights Fund’s (NARF’s) websites, and other online channels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Media, or related field, preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in social media, marketing, communications, website development, or public relations, preferably at a nonprofit and/or Tribal organization.
  • Experience creating and managing content across a variety of online channels including digital ads, email, and social media.
  • Ability to write clearly, concisely, and logically. Expertise in AP style and legal writing, preferred.
  • Efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines and honoring schedules.
  • Must exercise strong judgment, sensitivity, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work with a high degree of autonomy and independence.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work cooperatively, effectively, and diplomatically with a wide range of constituencies including co-workers, attorneys, donors, vendors, NARF board of directors, and Tribal leaders.
  • Highly organized self-starter who is comfortable in a fast-moving organization.
  • The work environment is a fast-paced, high-pressure, professional office environment. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Some travel, locally and nationally, is required.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, which include extended periods of sitting, use of computer and peripheral equipment, occasional stooping, standing or carrying, occasional lifting up to 50lbs., with assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience creating short-form video, preferred.
  • An understanding of Indian Law and Tribal-U.S. relations, preferred.
  • Familiarity with Native American culture and/or experience working with Tribal Nations or Indigenous Peoples, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop digital outreach strategies that align with NARF’s values and goals, encompassing campaigns, content, and the brand’s overall tone and personality.
  • Create engaging online content, including written materials, video, infographics, graphical designs, social media carousels, emails, and other online-friendly formats. Collaborate closely with the team’s graphic design manager to create aesthetically pleasing and branded outreach materials.
  • Turn legal background and facts into social-friendly, accessible content that moves opinion and drives action.
  • Grow NARF’s online presence. Lead impactful, digital-first campaigns that move people to act. Use strategies like paid and organic social media and influencer engagement, to shape public opinion and narratives. Engage and respond with NARF supporters online.
  • Plan and implement strategic digital advertising. Monitor results of those advertisements and adjust approach accordingly.
  • Monitor NARF’s digital performance across channels (including social media and web traffic analytics) and use that information to regularly improve NARF’s strategies.
  • Maintain and develop NARF’s stable of websites in HTML and WordPress. Collaborate with graphic designer to create a powerful and visually appealing web presence.
  • Experiment with new ways to reach people online.
  • Act as a departmental liaison and Communications champion for assigned Legal/ Development teams and projects. Attend team meetings and identify communications opportunities.
  • Engage in professional development to ensure current, expert knowledge of media relations and effective nonprofit storytelling. Report back to the Communications Department on current best practices and trends.
  • Primary responsibilities will focus on the above, but other responsibilities may be assigned, as needed and in line with the Communication team’s responsibilities, such as: Create compelling content for online and print publications, Take and maintain photos of NARF staff, Board of Directors, clients and events, Manage and create video content, Update and maintain NARF’s stable of websites in HTML and WordPress, and Collaborate on projects across the communications spectrum as needed, which could include copywriting, website design, media relations, crisis communications, donor relations, etc.
