About The Position

The Department of Strategic Communications and Marketing at West Virginia University is seeking a Digital Designer to join their team. This hybrid role is responsible for supporting the design, development, and implementation of various communication materials and channels to improve user experience and drive engagement across traditional and digital platforms. The position will also provide graphic design services for presentations and other collateral related to internal and external messaging and events. The incumbent will be required to be in the office at least 3 days a week.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, multimedia, integrated marketing, or a related field, plus a minimum of 2-3 years of related work experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and its related design tools.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deliver quality work that meets project and unit needs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across diverse client groups with excellent command of the English language.
  • Substantial experience with client management.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with ease.
  • Skilled proficiency with creating websites from inception to completion (e.g., content audit, user experience design, information architecture, branding, accessibility remediation, etc.).
  • Knowledge of current and emerging web technologies and standards.
  • Skilled proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented: excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral communications, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle time-sensitive tasks or tight deadlines that may extend beyond normal working hours on occasion.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and work under pressure.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to new or changing situations, priorities, and technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional graphic design services and support for presentation materials and other collateral related to internal/external messaging and events.
  • Conceptualizes and formulates design strategies and presentation approaches for visual imagery, communications, and promotional purposes for WVU.
  • Makes concrete design and layout decisions for content across a variety of channels (e.g., web, mobile, digital, print, and environmental).
  • Serves as an advocate for user-focused design, develops and implements strategies to improve the usability, accessibility, and satisfaction associated with Strategic Priorities digital assets in ways that are attractive and convenient for users.
  • Communicates with cross-functional teams to establish a vision for design projects, while ensuring that unit business needs are met.
  • Oversees the design, development, and distribution of HTML email content for high-impact messages.
  • Manages the development and design of online surveys used to capture WVU student, faculty, and staff insights and feedback.
  • Manages and designs content for West Virginia University’s digital signage platform in accordance with brand and accessibility standards.
  • Leads the design and development of website content for divisions/units that fall under the purview of Strategic Priorities using a variety of university tools.
  • Works with staff in the design and management of website content in compliance with the University’s web policy and style guidelines.
  • Uses accessible web page design guidelines in developing and revising web pages to ensure that they are accessible to a diverse audience.
  • Monitors usage to guide the ongoing development and improvement of websites.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or directed.
