About The Position

Carlow University is now accepting applications for our Digital Creator role. The Digital Creator strengthens Carlow University's digital footprint through original, engaging storytelling across social media, web, email, and internal channels. This role captures authentic student experiences, campus life, academic programs, events, and institutional messages in ways that connect with prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners. This position helps bring Carlow's brand promise, "Devoted to the Future of You," to life by highlighting what makes the university distinct: Mercy values, personal attention, Pittsburgh's Oakland location, and strong student outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Social Media, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong social media writing and editing skills across multiple audiences and platforms
  • Portfolio required, with examples of original digital work across platforms
  • Proficiency with tools such as: Short-form video editing tools, Design platforms such as Canva, Adobe Express, or Adobe Creative Cloud, Social media scheduling tools such as Sprout
  • Understanding of current social media trends, platform behavior, and best practices
  • Ability to create for digital signage and internal screens with concise messaging and strong visual hierarchy
  • Ability to work on-site at Carlow's Oakland campus, including occasional evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating digital material in a mission-driven environment
  • Familiarity with SEO and AEO best practices
  • Experience as a student creator, ambassador, RA, or similar campus role
  • Photography and videography experience
  • Experience with CMS, email platforms, intranet systems, or digital signage systems
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and ADA compliance
  • Passion for human-centered storytelling

Responsibilities

  • Create multimedia material for social platforms, web, email, and internal use, including short-form video, photos, graphics, Stories, Reels, and posts
  • Showcase student experience, academics, athletics, residence life, student support, and mission-driven initiatives
  • Capture day-in-the-life and behind-the-scenes moments across campus, clinical placements, service projects, and Oakland
  • Interview students, faculty, alumni, and staff to gather authentic stories and perspectives
  • Translate Carlow's Mercy values of hospitality, service, discovery, and sacredness of creation into human-centered storytelling
  • Optimize posts and digital assets for SEO, AEO, and platform best practices
  • Plan, create, and schedule posts for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and internal digital platforms
  • Support always-on storytelling and campaigns tied to the student journey and major university moments
  • Monitor comments, messages, and tags, respond appropriately, and escalate when needed
  • Experiment with trends, formats, and platform features to keep Carlow relevant and competitive
  • Prioritize authentic, student-shot and lo-fi material when it supports stronger engagement
  • Track performance metrics including reach, engagement, follower growth, video views, saves, shares, click-throughs, and traffic
  • Use analytics to refine topics, formats, timing, and calls to action
  • Collaborate with student ambassadors, clubs, athletics, residence life, and other campus partners to source stories
  • Curate and reshare student-generated posts, photos, and videos with proper permissions
  • Attend campus events to capture real-time moments
  • Build relationships with diverse student populations, including first-generation, transfer, adult, commuter, residential, traditional, and non-traditional students
  • Help maintain Carlow's brand voice across channels: student-centered, mission-driven, and grounded in "Devoted to the Future of You"
  • Ensure all work reflects Carlow's visual identity, accessibility standards, and brand guidelines
  • Develop audience-specific storytelling for prospective students, adult learners, graduate students, alumni, donors, and community partners
  • Build a creative style that feels authentic to Carlow and flexible across platforms
  • Work closely with Marketing & Communications, Admissions, Advancement, Athletics, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs
  • Maintain a forward-looking calendar tied to enrollment cycles, campus events, and institutional priorities
  • Organize and manage digital assets for efficient reuse
  • Participate in team planning, brainstorms, and professional development
