About The Position

The Digital Communication Assistant is a member of the American University School of Communication’s Communication and Marketing team. This team is responsible for the promotion of the school to external and internal audiences with the purpose of raising awareness and interest in the school, its students, faculty, degree programs, and school-wide initiatives.

Requirements

  • Current AU undergraduate or graduate student.
  • The ideal candidate for this position must be detail-oriented, efficient with their time, and self-motivated.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines while paying close attention to detail.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to develop visually appealing content.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the rest of the Communications & Marketing team.
  • Experience using content management systems.
  • Basic understanding of HTML.
  • Experience with social media copywriting, outreach and management, particularly for Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Experience with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) or similar web analytics tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of graphic design and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is preferred.
  • Experience reporting on social media metrics and tracking campaigns and posts is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Online Content Coordinator in the planning and creation of original social media campaigns to promote SOC’s key initiatives.
  • Create engaging and original content for various social media platforms, including text posts, images, graphics, and 30 - 60 second reels.
  • Draft news content for the website (announcements, profiles, Q&A).
  • Pulling monthly reports on social media metrics using Hootsuite to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and posts.
  • Working in the university’s content management system (CMS) to make basic web updates, such as writing, editing and formatting content for the SOC web site.
  • Pulling monthly reports on website traffic using Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to identify trends, user behavior, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assisting with the production of student, alumni, and SOC community newsletters.
