About The Position

Global News Toronto is seeking a full-time Digital Broadcast Journalist to join their fast-paced, dynamic, and award-winning multiplatform newsroom. This role is crucial for delivering timely, accurate, and compelling coverage of breaking news across the GTA, shaping how millions of Canadians stay informed. The ideal candidate is a journalist with strong newsroom instincts, a passion for breaking news, and the ability to adapt quickly in a rapid-response environment. They will be comfortable reporting live and producing content across television, radio, and digital platforms.

Requirements

Post-secondary education in Journalism/Broadcasting or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated experience covering breaking news in a major market or comparable environment.
Strong live reporting skills, with the ability to deliver clear, confident hits under pressure.
Experience writing and delivering for radio, including comfort with anchoring or voicing breaking updates.
Solid editorial judgment and the ability to quickly assess and prioritize stories.
Strong writing, storytelling, and production skills across multiple platforms.
Proficiency in shooting and editing video content for broadcast and digital.
Ability to work effectively from the newsroom or in the field, depending on editorial needs.
Comfortable working in a high-pressure, rapidly changing environment with shifting priorities.
Strong collaboration skills and a team-first mindset.
Technical proficiency and ability to troubleshoot in the field.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
A strong interest in Toronto, GTA, and Canadian news, with a clear understanding of the competitive landscape.
Self-starter with sound news judgment, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

Responding to and reporting on breaking news from the newsroom and in the field, often on tight and evolving deadlines.
Producing, reporting, and delivering live updates for television, digital, and radio platforms, including anchoring radio hits when required.
Writing and producing clear, accurate, and timely scripts for broadcast and digital, tailored to platform and audience.
Pitching original story ideas while executing on daily and breaking coverage priorities.
Monitoring scanners, wires, social media, and internal sources to identify and advance breaking stories.
Collaborating closely with assignment desk, producers, and editorial leaders to coordinate coverage.
Developing and maintaining a strong network of contacts across the Toronto region.
Representing Global News professionally in the field and at public events.
Adhering to Global News’ Journalistic Principles and Practices.
Being available to work a range of shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and on-call breaking news coverage.
Performing other duties as required.
