Differential Machinist Job Overview: There are a variety of tasks this position completes, including repairing machinery parts and creating new parts, either in groups or one at a time. First, a machinist must prepare by checking the specifications and blueprints for a job. They calculate how to shape the piece of metal or other material that is being worked on and decide what tools will be needed. Next, machinists place the work piece on the tool of choice and set the controls to make the cuts. While the machining process is taking place, machinists watch carefully for any problems. They monitor the speed and heat of the machine. Associates must be detail oriented.
