The Opportunity Reporting to the Manager and with accountability to the Professional Practice Leader for issues pertaining to Professional Standards of Practice and Ethics. The Dietitian/Nutritionist collaborates and consults on nutrition management as a member of the interprofessional Adult Surgery Ambulatory team. The core component of the position will focus on the nutritional management of patients experiencing chronic pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction. The Dietitian/Nutritionist provides assessment, intervention, and follow-up (as indicated) on a direct, consultative, or monitoring basis. The Dietitian/Nutritionist and participates in the development of services through care team meetings, working groups, and sub-committees as required. The Dietitian/Nutritionist will mentor/precept dietetic interns and other affiliating learners on normal and therapeutic nutrition in accordance with the mission, vision, and philosophies of IWK Health. The Dietitian/Nutritionist provides nutrition education and acts as a mentor to dietetic interns and as a resource to other multidisciplinary students, staff and physicians. This position is primarily based in Dartmouth at the Wyse Road location with one (1) day a week at the Halifax location for interprofessional in person appointment(s).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with major credits in nutrition or dietetics required
  • Graduate of a Dietitians of Canada accredited Dietetic Internship Program
  • Licensed member of the Nova Scotia Regulator of Dietetics (NSRD), or eligible for licensure
  • Advanced Food Safety training
  • Previous related clinical nutrition experience required.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication (verbal & written) skills.
  • Excellent time management, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to patient centred care.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree preferred
  • Member of Dietitians of Canada preferred.
  • Previous experience with chronic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction preferred.
  • Competency in other languages an asset
