About The Position

AQUALIS is seeking a dependable, hands-on Diesel/ Shop Mechanic (Mid-Level Fleet & Equipment Mechanic) to maintain and repair vehicles, vac trucks, trailers, landscape equipment, and other specialized equipment used by our field operations teams. This position is responsible for keeping our fleet and equipment safe, reliable, and field-ready through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded, independent mechanic who is comfortable working across diesel vehicles, fleet equipment, small engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and trailers. This role is primarily based in the shop, with occasional field support to diagnose and repair equipment when needed.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional mechanical, fleet, equipment, automotive, or diesel maintenance experience.
  • Strong hands-on diesel mechanical experience preferred, with experience troubleshooting and repairing trucks or commercial vehicles strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform routine diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and mechanical repairs.
  • Experience with brakes, tires, suspension, cooling, starting/charging, and electrical systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment independently.
  • Ability to learn and work on unfamiliar vehicles and equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to operate company vehicles and trailers as required.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/trade-school training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on vac trucks, pickup trucks, and light-to-medium-duty service vehicles, including oil changes, fluid and filter replacement, lubrication, and scheduled maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, brakes, ties, steering, suspension, cooling, starting/charging, and electrical systems.
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment for developing mechanical or safety issues and complete repairs before failures occur whenever possible.
  • Maintain and repair commercial mowers, Ventrac specialty tractors, walk-behind equipment, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and other landscape equipment, including small engines, belts, pulleys, bearings, spindles, blades, decks, and hydraulic components.
  • Inspect and repair utility and equipment trailers, including brakes, bearings, hubs, tires, lighting, wiring, jacks, and safely couplers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pumps, generators, pressure washers, vacuum equipment, and hydraulic systems, including basic hydraulic hose replacement and minor welding/fabrication as needed.
  • Diagnose equipment breakdowns by phone or in the field and perform occasional field repairs to minimize operational downtime.
  • Coordinate complex or specialized repairs with dealerships and outside vendors when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including labor, parts, repairs, and equipment downtime.
  • Help manage inventory of commonly used spare parts and supplies.
  • Prioritize repairs based on safety, equipment, availability, and operational urgency.
