Diesel Shop Manager
About The Position
Leonard’s Express is looking for a proven Diesel Shop Manager to lead a high-performance diesel shop in Farmington, NY. This full-time role requires someone who knows how to run a shop, lead technicians, and keep a fleet in top condition. The ideal candidate will have experience managing a diesel shop or serving as a foreman and is ready to take ownership of a high-performing facility. This is a hands-on leadership role, not a desk job, where you will be the go-to leader for your team, the bridge between maintenance and operations, and responsible for setting the tone for safety, quality, and professionalism daily. Your leadership will directly impact fleet readiness, driver satisfaction, customer service, safety performance, and financial results.
Requirements
- Experience as a diesel shop manager or foreman (required).
- Strong leadership presence; ability to set expectations and hold the team accountable.
- Ability to coach, train, and develop technicians.
- Advanced knowledge of Class A heavy diesel trucks and reefer trailers.
- Strong communication skills with drivers, techs, and operations.
- Experience with scheduling, workflow planning, and productivity management.
- Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Excel.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license.
Nice To Haves
- Technical schooling or ASE training.
- CDL-A is a bonus.
- Experience with TMT, TTP, or shop scheduling systems.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day shop operations for a busy Class A truck & trailer facility.
- Lead and support a team of technicians, providing guidance and training.
- Facilitate communication between the shop, drivers, and operations to ensure smooth freight movement.
- Uphold safety, quality, and productivity standards to protect people and the brand.
- Oversee scheduling, workflow planning, and performance metrics to maximize shop output.
- Manage parts inventory, stock control, and purchasing decisions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop environment.
