About The Position

Metson Marine Services, Inc. (MMSI) is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to support vessel and port operations. MMSI provides ocean transportation, vessel operations, and marine environmental support services to commercial and government clients, and manages and maintains government-owned vessels and small craft. The role diagnoses and repairs diesel engines and related equipment, performs preventive maintenance, and supports vessel, pier, and port-facility upkeep. The mechanic may also participate in oil spill response and assist a small boat crew under the direction of the Coxswain. The position is expected to comply with company, customer, and safety requirements and support contract performance and operational needs.

Requirements

• Experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and lifting devices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a marine and port operations environment.
• Willingness to participate in emergency response activities and support vessel operations as needed.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of marine diesel and gasoline engines.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical malfunctions and repair diesel engines and related equipment.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, dismantle, repair, and reassemble machinery and equipment using hand tools, gauges, hoists, and diagnostic equipment.
• Examine components for damage or excessive wear and replace defective parts, engines, and subassemblies, including pumps and transmissions.
• Test repaired and overhauled equipment to verify proper operation and performance.
• Perform minor and major repairs on marine diesel and gasoline engines, including Yanmar, Onan, and outboard engines.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and routine servicing of equipment and vessels.
• Perform tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of vessels, piers, and port facility common areas.
• Serve on the Oil Spill Response Team and participate in response activities as required.
• Assist as a small boat crew member and support the safe and efficient operation of vessels, crew members, and military personnel under the direction of the Coxswain.
• Maintain compliance with company, customer, and safety requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required to support contract performance and operational needs.
