About The Position

TCAT is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to join their unionized maintenance team. This role is central to ensuring the safety of drivers, passengers, and the community by keeping the bus fleet safe, reliable, and road-ready. The position offers regular training opportunities to stay current with diesel and electric vehicle repair and maintenance technologies. New hires typically start on the 3rd shift (10pm-6:30am). Work is performed at TCAT Headquarters, with occasional local road calls. Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience repairing diesel engines in a transit environment.
  • Experience in airbrake diagnosis and repair.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to work with a team as well as independently.
  • Proficiency with computers and sensor tools.
  • Must provide own tools.
  • Must achieve and maintain commercial driver credentials to perform essential job functions.
  • Must satisfy all FMCSA, DOT, DMV, and NY 19-A regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous heavy-duty or automotive experience and relevant certifications will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Handle preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on the bus fleet.
  • Perform repairs on electrical systems, engines, transmissions, differentials, and air brakes.
  • Respond to occasional local road calls.
  • Participate in regular training opportunities.
  • Develop mastery, mentor others, or step into a shift leadership role.
