About The Position

Florida Express Waste & Recycling, a Waste Connections company, is seeking a safety-conscious and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join their team in Ocala, FL. This role is responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on a fleet of diesel trucks and equipment, including electrical and hydraulic systems. The position offers a pay range of $33–$35 per hour with an additional $1.00 differential per hour. The primary schedule is Monday–Friday, 11:00 PM – 9:30 AM, with occasional Saturdays. Training will be conducted during early morning hours. The job requires the ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, and be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, vibration, and moderate noise levels. Safety precautions must be followed at all times.

Requirements

2+ years of diesel mechanic experience preferred
CDL preferred (not required)
Strong knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems
Familiarity with fleet maintenance software and inspection protocols
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Comfortable working in physically demanding conditions year‑round

Responsibilities

Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on diesel trucks and equipment
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using computerized diagnostic systems
Initiate repairs or assign corrective actions as needed
Perform safety inspections and operational checks on fleet equipment
Review and complete repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)
Accurately document all maintenance activities using fleet maintenance software
Track parts usage and repair time
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Comply with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
