About The Position

Ryder is hiring a mid-level Diesel Technician in Spokane, Washington. The position performs maintenance and repair work on heavy-duty vehicles and includes vehicle diagnostics, preventative maintenance, component inspections and repairs, and related facility and operational support duties. The role works Monday through Friday, from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with weekends off. Ryder provides diagnostic tools and equipment, weekly pay, paid training, and opportunities for career development and advancement.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Vocational or technical certification.
Basic tools required.
Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines.
Experience with routine preventative maintenance, including oil changes, brake work, and tire work, required.
Two or more years of combined classroom training and work experience in the required experience area preferred.
Must be able to obtain a CDL within six months after hire.
Must pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles.

Nice To Haves

Post-secondary degree or technical certifications preferred.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) preferred.
Two or more years of combined classroom training and work experience in the required experience area preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
Perform standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections and repairs.
Perform preventive maintenance, including routine service work.
Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems, using diagnostic computers when applicable.
Identify root causes of basic failures or conditions and perform repairs as required.
Replace defective components as instructed.
Perform facility maintenance duties.
Interact with customers and drivers to determine the nature of a complaint after receiving an assigned task.
Use key functions of the Shop Management System and available electronic documentation.
Work in accordance with federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines, including safety and DOT/MOT requirements.
Perform other duties supporting operations, including Service Island support.
