About The Position

GFL is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair its waste and recycling fleet. The role involves routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks, including rear loaders, side loaders, front loaders, and roll-offs, to support safe and reliable operations. The position is located at 2809 Galloway Road, Bolivia, NC 28422, with a shift from 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Overtime begins after 40 hours worked. Pay is $25–$33 per hour, with higher pay potentially available based on experience, certifications, and skill level. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is paid in two installments: $2,500 after 30 days and the remaining $2,500 after 90 days.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience as a diesel technician or mechanic.
Own a personal set of basic mechanic’s tools.
Valid driver’s license.
Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced shop environment.

Class A or B CDL, or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic/air brake systems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools.
Repair and maintain specialized waste equipment, including compressors, hydraulic cylinders, automated arms, and lift systems.
Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with DOT and company standards.
Maintain clean and accurate work orders and fleet maintenance records.
Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow OSHA and DOT safety protocols.
Safely operate, repair, rebuild, and maintain company-owned or leased heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment, including rolling stock.
