Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
• Possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
• Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• Employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
• Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and fix mechanical issues on vehicles, trucks, tractors, and construction machinery
• Carry out scheduled servicing on engines, systems, and equipment parts
• Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
• Identify equipment problems using testing procedures and specialized tools
• Maintain a clean work area and follow proper safety procedures to prevent injuries
• Perform minor repairs and make routine adjustments to ensure safe operation of equipment
