As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic for the Department of Transportation, you take on important repairs and inspections that support daily transportation needs. Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
• Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
• Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
• Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
• Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic components
• Conduct regular maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and tune-ups on assigned equipment
• Perform state inspections, complete required paperwork, and ensure vehicles meet safety standards
• Use diagnostic tools to identify problems, determine repair methods, and maintain small motorized equipment
• Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and take proactive steps to avoid hazards
• Assist coworkers with major repairs and demonstrate proper repair techniques when needed
