Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
• Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
• Pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
• Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within probationary period.
• Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
• Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
• Mechanics are required to possess a basic set of tools, as a requirement to perform their job duties.
• Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose issues, repair engines, replace parts, and service electrical, hydraulic, and cooling systems
• Carry out routine servicing, tune-ups, adjustments, and component checks to prevent equipment failures
• Perform official safety and emissions inspections, complete required forms, and conduct road tests
• Use diagnostic tools to identify problems, select repair methods, and maintain smaller motorized hand equipment
• Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries or equipment damage promptly
• Make necessary on-site adjustments, support major repairs, demonstrate techniques, and maintain equipment records
