About The Position

As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic with the Department of Transportation, Cambria County Maintenance Organization, you will help maintain the equipment that keeps our communities moving. This role provides opportunities to solve problems, build experience, and work with a wide variety of vehicles and machinery. You will be involved with troubleshooting, repairing systems, and ensuring vehicles and equipment meet safety and inspection standards.

Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed, or equivalent.
• Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N).
• An active Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
• Employees must pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Repair engines, transmissions, electrical components, and other systems on vehicles and construction equipment
• Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks to keep vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition
• Perform official state safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
• Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical problems and determine the best repair methods
• Make routine adjustments and minor repairs to support safe and efficient field operations
• Assist with maintaining equipment records and reporting damaged or missing parts
