Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment
  • Active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
  • Employees must pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period
  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N)
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

  • Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and other major components on vehicles and machinery
  • Complete inspections and service routines to keep equipment in proper working order
  • Use diagnostic tools and procedures to identify mechanical and electrical problems
  • Carry out official state inspections and confirm that equipment meets safety requirements
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs during field operations to ensure safe use of equipment
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities and equipment conditions
