About The Position

As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic with the Department of Transportation, you will join a team that keeps essential vehicles and equipment operating safely. Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License on the first day of employment.
• Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
• Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• Pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
• Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) on the first day of employment.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Repair vehicles and equipment including trucks, tractors, sweepers, mixers, and loaders
• Adjust and repair cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning systems
• Perform official inspections, complete records, and road test vehicles for compliance
• Identify mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and determine repair methods
• Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries or equipment damage
