Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • Employees must pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment including sweepers, mixers, and loaders
  • Carry out diagnostics, tune ups, tire changes, and system adjustments across multiple mechanical components
  • Complete safety and emissions inspections, ensure compliance with specifications, and prepare required records
  • Identify mechanical problems using diagnostic tools and determine proper repair methods and parts
  • Perform adjustments and minor repairs in the field and demonstrate repair techniques to other employees
  • Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and maintain a clean and safe work environment
