Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License
  • Possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
  • Pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period
  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N)
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

  • Repair cars, trucks, tractors, loaders, and other equipment to keep them in proper working condition
  • Perform diagnostics, tune-ups, system checks, and routine servicing on engines and components
  • Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete all required documentation
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine appropriate repair methods
  • Maintain a safe work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries or hazards immediately
  • Make on-site adjustments and minor repairs to support safe and efficient equipment operation
