Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
• You must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
• This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
• Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment, including engine and system components
• Carry out routine inspections and service tasks to keep equipment in safe operating condition
• Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete all related paperwork
• Identify mechanical issues using tools and diagnostic equipment and determine required repair methods
• Follow safety procedures, maintain a clean work area, and report hazards and injuries immediately
• Make necessary adjustments and minor repairs during field operations to support safe use of equipment
